Google, Meet Sudan

 

That picture above is what a burned out village in Darfur, Sudan, looks like from above.  You probably won’t see this photo in the newspaper, but you will now find it in Google Earth.  In a fascinating act of corporate activism, Google is now using their Earth product (not to be confused with their Maps product) to highlight what is going on in Darfur.  Read all about it in the Globe.


if you search for “Sudan” in Google Earth, you’ll eventually fly to this location:



From there you can link to a charity working to bring attention to what is going on in Darfur and also zoom in to see the horror that is going on there.


Also, make sure that you go to “Sudan” rather than “Darfur”, as it will take you to Darfur, Minnesota:
