Beyond the Funhouse

On Saturday, Wendy and I went to see an exhibit of new work by Anish Kapoor at the Gladstone Gallery.  I first saw his work and it opened me to what contemporary art could be (previously I’d been limited to the then-poor collections of the National Gallery of Canada).

The most intriguing piece was the curved mirror.  It has a deceptively simple shape, but it creates a rich interaction with the viewer and is one of the most engaging pieces of art I’ve seen.  I could mutter some stuff about it making us question perspective in our lives, etc. but that would be mighty pretentious, so instead watch this video of Wendy and the sculpture.
