Dear Leader Did What?

 

A few years back there was a newspaper article talking about how some U.S. politicians visiting North Korea watched a pageant featuring over 100,000 actors and dancers.  When I saw that I had to re-read the line: 100,000 people?  I couldn’t even fathom what that would look like.


Now I don’t have to imagine it as Andreas Gursky has taken photos of it and they’re featured in his latest exhibition in Germany.  I’ve scanned a couple here from Wallpaper magazine’s March issue.  Now you too can enjoy the spectacle that is going on in an a starving, nuclear-armed country:

Note that in the above and below images the visions of doves, guns and flowers are actually due to people holding placards-that’s why this pageantry requires 100,000 actors.
